Eric Bauman, Chair of the Democratic Party, California, who is already absent as a result of a recent sexual misconduct investigation, said he would try alcohol treatment.
The announcement responded to multiple allegations of sexual misconduct published by Los Angeles Times earlier in the day. Among the allegations, a woman who said she was temporarily working for the party during the election season when Bauman asked if she and another worker were sleeping with each other.
"I felt embarrassed, almost ashamed and uncomfortable," said Grace Leekley at the Times. "I'm basically the baseball staff – and he is the most powerful man in the party."
The allegations came as the influential state party riding on a brown celebration following a historic show in Orange County during the mid-November election. Once it is the cornerstone of the GOP, the country has now been represented entirely by Democrats in Congress.
Without confirming or refusing the allegations, Bauman said in a statement, "I am sorry if my behavior has caused pain to any of the outstanding individuals that I have had the privilege to work with. I & # 39; n appreciate the courage that took these individuals to come and tell their stories. "
He added: "I'll use the time I'm on leave to ask for immediate medical intervention to address serious, persistent health issues and to start treatment for what I am doing Realizing a problem with alcohol. "
Last year, as Bauman campaigned for his job, he faced allegations that he had been involved in inappropriate behavior with teenage boys. At the time, Bauman, the first open party gay chairman of the state party, said he was "incredible" by the payments.
Vice-chairman of the Daraka Larimore-Hall parties first raised the latest round of allegations and called on Bauman to resign.
