New Detection Asteroid Image published – Technologies

The OSIRIS-REx device made a new snapshot of the asteroid Bennu. As noted on the NASA website, the picture was taken on November 16, when the device was far from 136 kilometers of celestial body surface.

In the new photo you can see the cranes and groups of stones that cover the Fennu surface. Already in December, OSIRIS-REx will start using the MapCam camera, which will allow you to take photos of the asteroid in color and map the distribution of different substances on its face.

The station's mission in the asteroid will last until 2021, and then it will begin to move towards the Earth. During its stay in the asteroid orbit, OSIRIS-Rex must take pictures of the asteroid, compile its map and touch once to collect soil samples.

Previously, scientists have stated that asteroids that may be dangerous to the ground remain invisible to telescope in the ground. The researchers reached their conclusions by analyzing the data on near-ground objects found by several observations.
