Huawei has provided a brand new HiSilicon Kirin 980 with a number of artificial intelligence features and a 1.4 Gbps load speed. Huawei announced the processor in September and then used in the Series 20 Huawei Mate, and is likely to reach the next generation of the Huawei P Series phones in the first half of next year. Although the processor is still new, it seems that Huawei has already begun to develop its successor, a new report says that the preparations for the HiSilicon Kirin 990 processor have already started.
The report from China says that TSMC will oversee the manufacture of a Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 990 processor using 7 nm technology. Some sources familiar with the issue say that HiSilicon Kirin Huasei has invested about 200 million Chinese yuan in research and development, translating to more than $ 28 million.
HiSilicon Kirin 980 was the first mobile processing processor using 7nm technology and included Cortex-A76 kernel. Although the HiSilicon Kirin 990 processor will have a similar architecture, including the number of transitors and power usage, the first licensed modem may support the speeds offered by 5G fifth generation networks. The new HiSilicon Kirin 990 processor should enter the first quarter of next year, and we expect more detailed information about this processor at the time.
