Eating whole-fat grain prevents liver cancer

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – A diet that contains a great deal of whole grain may have a new benefit in reducing the risk of liver cancer, a new US study suggests.

An analysis of data of more than 125,000 men and women over a 24 year period found that those who ate more complete grains had a 40 percent risk of developing liver cancer than those who ate less.

The study group consisted of only 141 cases of liver cancer, and so it is necessary to determine why the whole grain is protected, researchers said in the Gamma Network magazine.
