Here are the 13 finalists for the Swiss Car of the Year of 2021

Audi A3

The most important Audi model is reaching its fourth edition. A larger grille and wider shoulder line make it more massive. Inside are digital instruments, networking and seat covers made from recycled PET bottles. Gasoline and diesel engines with 150 hp each, in the S3 with 310 hp, provide drive. Other versions such as a lightweight hybrid will follow. Price: from 36,400 francs.

Cupra Formentor

Formentor of sports subsidiary Spanish Seat Cupra is the first independent model of the still young brand – so it’s not just “just” another stronger Seat derivative. It starts with a 310 hp and 4×4 petrol engine, soon there will be a plug-in hybrid version with 245 hp system output and 50 kilometers of electric range. Price: from 50,000 francs.

Kia e-Niro

Niro’s Korean SUV compact is becoming more and more versatile. After two petrol hybrids, there is now an electric only version with two power levels. With a smaller 39.2 kWh battery and 100 kW (136 hp) output, it has a range of 289 hp. The more powerful version with 150 kW (204 PS) even manages 455 hp. Price: from 43,900 francs.

Land Rover protector

The landscape icon is back. This year the stylish, angular new edition began. And this continues to be a real off-road driver with a 4×4 and off-road reduction. There are diesel and gasoline engines with 200 to 400 hp. You can also choose the shorter three door body (price: from 57,000 francs) or the longer five doors (price: from 64,000 francs).

Mazda MX-30

The Japanese skip the hybrid intermediate stage in electrification and launch a pure electric car. The MX-30 is an elegant SUV with doors that open in different directions. Inside are eco-friendly surfaces made from recycled cork and PET. Its electric motor has an output of 107 kW (145 hp) and the battery offers a range of 200 to 260 hp. Price: from 36,990 francs.

Mercedes cap

Compact outside, spacious inside: this is Mercedes’ new GLB. The family SUV is only slightly smaller than GLC and optionally offers seven seats. Typically in modern SUVs, it is only available with 4x4s, but autos are standard. Petrol and diesel engines with 116 to 306 hp provide the drive. A plug-in hybrid variant will follow later. Price: from 45,500 francs.

Opel Corsa-e

The Opel logo flash fits here. The sixth edition of the Corsa is also available with an electric drive. The difference can hardly be seen, but you can hear it. The 100 kW (136 PS) electric motor is going to work quietly. A 50 kWh battery is located in the individual and provides a range of 337 kilometers. There’s also the Matrix LED light, which is still rare in small cars. Price: from 35,540 francs.

Polestar 2

The second model of the new electric brand from Volvo is a crossover sedan and pure Stromer. Two electric motors deliver 300 kW (408 PS) and 660 Nm to all four wheels. In 4.2 seconds it goes to 100 km / hr and further up to 205 km / hr. The 78 kWh battery enables a range of 470 hp. Polestar uses Android from Google as the multimedia system. Price: from 57,900 francs.

Renault Captur E-Tech

Now the French are also electrifying their bestseller Captur. The popular city SUV is now also available as an E-Tech plug-in hybrid version. It always starts electrical and with a 9.8 kWh battery it can travel up to 65 kilometers only electrically. The hybrid drive develops 160 hp and 205 Nm. In hybrid mode, the Captur E-Tech is content with 1.7 liters. Price: from 38,100 francs.

Skoda Octavia Combi

The Czech station wagon rolls unobtrusively to success and becomes the best-selling car in Switzerland. To keep it that way, the fourth edition will be more elegant and digital on the inside. There is also a wide choice of drive systems: petrol, diesel, lightweight hybrid and plug-in as well as natural gas with 110 to 245 hp in the sportiest RS. Only pure electro is (still) missing. Price: from CHF 28,160.

Toyota Yaris

The new Toyota Yaris not only looks cool, but drives that as well. It is also available as a petrol engine with 72 to 125 hp. But what is most popular with us is the hybrid variant, where the 1.5-liter gasoline engine and electric motor produce 116 hp. This jumps to 100 km / hr in 9.7 seconds and up to 175 km / hr. Prices: from 17,900 (petrol) or 23,900 francs (hybrid).

Golf VW

He wants to remain the measure of all things in the abstract class. With a slightly sharper look, eighth-generation Golf offers an entirely new digital cockpit. The range of models, including the station wagon and Alltrack with 4×4, remains as large as ever. This also applies to the various drives. There are gasoline, diesel, lightweight and plug-in hybrids. Price: from 22,900 francs.

It will become the new Volksstromer and establish a new VW electric family ID. A smaller design and a simple yet modern interior characterize the appearance. It is available with two batteries with a capacity of 58 or 77 kWh for a range of 425 or 539 kilometers. For now, only one electric motor has 150 kW (204 PS) power. Price: from 39,450 francs.
