Done! The NASA "InSight" NASA robot gave Mars – and sends a first image to the Earth

For the first time since 2012, the US space agency Nasa robot landed on Mars on Monday. The move could be followed live online. Just a few minutes after landing at 9:00 AM Switzerland, the first image recorded by the robot was shown.

After a journey of around 485 million kilometers, the lander launched in May InSight in the plain Elysium Planitia to the north of Mars mediator on the red planet. "We've never made such measurements on Mars," emphasized Giardini. The first results could be in January. For example, scientists want to use the data to learn more about the size of the planetary nucleus, and to determine if it is sound or robust.

The more Marsquakes or meteor affects them they record, clearer the picture they get from the inside of the planet. "If we get a better understanding of other planets like Mars, we'll understand the Earth better," said Giardini, summarizing the mission's mission.
