In the new Playstation game “Spider-man: Miles Morales”, in which the superhero is rocking forward in a largely faithfully rendered Manhattan, the famous building is missing.
This has made players wonder, as the game’s predecessor of 2018 includes the Chrystler Building. Now a skyscraper has been replaced with a gray unknown lump. The explanation can be seen that the Chrysler scraper in March 2019 changed owners.
Developer Insomniac says they want to recreate as many landmarks as possible in the new game as well.
– Sometimes the discussions around some of those places didn’t go through, which was indeed the Chrysler Building, James Stevenson at developer Insomniac, told gaming site Gameinformer.
Buildings can be protected by US copyright law, similar to other works of art.
– So to be able to recreate it, either as a new build, as part of a t-shirt, model, or even put into a video game, you need the rights owner’s permission, Michael Lee told the company . Lee Law, to the site.
If the building goes by for a few seconds in a movie, for example, it is probably considered to be a reasonable use. But if he wants a more prominent role, for example being able to climb on as Spider-Man and look into every nook and cranny, he probably shouldn’t be considered that way. And instead of taking a chance and taking legal action, creators can opt out of the Chrysler Building.
“The more obvious the use, the more likely it would be considered infringement,” Stevenson told Gameinformer.

When the Chrysler Building, with its Art Deco style, was completed in May 1930, it was the tallest building in the world in just over a year. With its special tip, it still stands out on the east side of Manhattan.
It conquered the place as the tallest building in the world in the fight against The Bank of Manhattan, by building a 38 meter high spire that was finally erected.
The office building is nearly 319 meters high and has 77 floors above ground level. It was designed by William Van Alen.
