START – Over 150 people were cooled by the police in an anti-21 day operation which ended on Sunday (12 May).
Police said in a statement on Thursday that 154 women and men, aged 19 to 49, had been arrested for suspicion of involvement in sub-related activities.
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and seven Police Land Divisions hosted co-ordinated races targeting online syndicates at a number of locations across the island, including condominiums, hotels and residential units at Geylang, Woodlands, Yishun, Jurong West, Hougang and along Balestier Road.
The police are investigating.
The police added that they will continue to work with members of the public on information relating to sub-activities, and will take tough enforcement action against those involved.
They said that homeowners played an important role in preventing sub-activities, and are reminded to carry out a regular check on tenants to prevent such activities from increasing in residential estates.
Homeowners who deliberately rent their property to any person for sub-related activities will be prosecuted and can be imprisoned for up to three years or fined up to $ 3,000, or both.
In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, a fine of up to $ 10,000 may be fined or imprisoned for up to five years, or both.
Housing Board flats are intended for residential purposes, and there is a complete ban on the use of apartments for sub-activities, says the police.
EYF takes a serious view on the abuse of HDB flats and will not delay taking appropriate action against owners of flats found to be involved in the abuse, such as imposing a financial penalty or compulsory acquisition of the flat.
Tenants who are abused in a flat will not be allowed to rent an HDB flat for five years, adding the police.
