XALIMANEWS- Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development Abdou Karim Sall gave the results of the analyzes of the ecological disaster in the backwater of Mbao where thousands of mules were stranded on November 9, 2020. “We have completed the investigations observed by our team on clandestine connections of households dumping wastewater into the backwater. Which means that at first glance the back water is polluted. And the level of pollution makes it extremely difficult for these species to live there, ”regrets Abdou Karim Sall. Also, underlining the Environment Minister, “we recorded significant deaths in these donkeys which are pelagic species that normally live in salt and salt water.
And experts are unanimous that these species generally do not live in the backwater. So a question we ask ourselves, is to know if these pelagics left the sea to come in an environment as hostile and polluted as Mbao’s backwater. We are continuing with investigations to ensure that this backwater is not subjected to as many attacks as to the discharge of wastewater from concessions and trucks that come overnight to discharge wastewater as well ”.
