The Foreign Ministry in Russia advised that the Friendship Agreement and Cooperation with the Ukraine was coming to an end.
The equivalent document is published on the department's website, reports RIA "Novosti".
"On 1 April 2019, the Agreement on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Ukraine, signed in Kiev on 31 May 1997, was terminated," said the Foreign Ministry.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko voiced the decision on not renewing the contract in September 2018, at the same time Russian Foreign Ministry received a corresponding note of the Ukraine. Moscow was regretting Kiev's decision and calling it a destructive step.
The Treaty of Friendship, Co-operation and Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Ukraine was signed in 1997 and came into force on 1 April, 1999.
