Samsung MWC 2019: Yesterday I gave you a unique interview Maxime Guirauton, The Director of Consumer and Consumer Marketing Samsung Electronics, from MWC 2019. Today you can watch the full interview with Mark Notton, Director – Samsung Electronics Product and Business Portfolio.
We talked to Mark about the Samsung technical component of Samsung's new products. We are trying to understand the process of designing the front camera. Find out how the high-speed sensor had to integrate to the display. And finally, but not least, how does wireless energy share really?
Cristian Ganescu: Greetings! We are in the Mobile World Congress of 2019. This is the second interview we have in Samsung. The first time we talked to Maxime Guirauton, and today we will talk to Mark Electronics, Product Director and Portfolio of Samsung Electronics. Hello, Mark! What do you do, how are you?

Mark Notton: I'm fine, thank you, you?
LP: Yes, I spoke to Maxime yesterday. He told us a lot about the new S10 and Galaxy Fold range. He was very enthusiastic and gave me a very good feeling. However, I want to talk to you about the technical part of the S10 series. So the first thing that I want to ask is: "We have S10e, we have S10, S10 Plus and S10 Plus 5G. Do you know something, and we are not?"
MN: Yes, I'll hope so!
Samsung MWC 2019: When Galaxy S10 5G arrives in Romania
LP: And we hope! This year, would we benefit from 5G?
MN:Yes. So we're launching the S10 5G in Europe starting this summer. Depending on how the 5G network is developing, we will be able to launch it in different parts of Europe. We are starting with this product in the summer.
LP: People who want to keep up with the network can buy the 5G phone. And most likely in summer or after summer, we will see the launch of the 5G network in many countries.
MN: Exactly! Land with a country, there is a different timetable when we can launch the devices and we can use 5G services. So bringing a new network across the country takes some time. So, you will see, starting in the summer, a country with a country, that operators will begin to release them.
LP: Do you have a schedule for this launch? When will we see it in Romania?
MN: We do not yet have an established program for Romania. However, on our behalf, we have prepared devices, which we experience with a wide variety of European operators to be ready for the summer. And as soon as the Romanian operators begin to operate the 5G network, then we would love to launch in Romania.
LP: So, unfortunately, we do not have news about it.
MN: No, yet!
LP: OK, ok! We may keep in touch with this topic!
MN: We are in touch! With all new technologies, it's just a bit before it's launched. But then you'll see the benefits the technology offers later this year and beyond.
LP: Ok. I said, when we interacted with devices. For me, the S10 looks more premium and feels like that. S9 was not surprised, to be honest, but that's great. For me, that's great. I wanted to ask you …
Why was the room kept horizontally and not vertically, like the A9 series?
MN: It depends on what you can not see here, what's inside the device. In this model, we see many more sensors, chips, circuits and other such things. So we had to decide how to put the camera into the device. We have a suite that brings 2 rooms and 3 rooms, if you need the depth sensor.
Therefore, the most natural way to stick to these phones was to choose the horizontal layout of the camera module. For this model, it makes sense to do that. On the A series, it makes it more sense to get it vertically. So it depends on how we are developing the inside phones.
LP: It's more like a hardware issue.
MN: Partially hardware and partly aesthetic. We also think about what looks better. But the hardware was really weighing.
Samsung MWC 2019: A story about the fast-track fingerprint sensor
LP: We do not see the fingerprint sensor on the back.
LP: He moved to the display.
LP: And it's now called an "ultra-sonic sensor".
MN: Yes, exactly!
LP: All right! What makes it super-sophisticated? How do I work?
MN: The S10, S10 Plus and S10 Plus 5G are part of the display you can not see because it is under "Swipe to unlock". Inside, in this area, there is a higher-sonic finger sensor. It means that the waves move from the sensor to the screen by day. This does all day, waiting to see your finger.
LP: What you say is that it does not activate the finger link with the display, but the waves stop to stop without stopping. It's working continuously, searching for your fingerprints!
MN: Yes! It needs very little energy, so it does not use a lot of battery. That means you can unlock the phone when the screen is on or off. Put your finger simply over the right space on the display and the sensor will unlock the phone.
So you do not always have to wake up the device, because it does. And I incorporate the detector under the screen. It's hard to do so, so the waves pass. What the sensor really does! Other fingerprint sensors have embedded in the screen taking a picture of their unique fingerprint and aligning it.
LP: It's similar to face recognition, but faster and faster.
MN: Yes! That is what we call it "Optical technology". Take a picture and match to unlock.
Because he has the waves passed. What really is to measure the places between your fingertips.
Each has unique fingerprints. The detector checks if there is space that reads the same as the saved one and if so, then unlocked the phone. That means you can not take a picture of your finger and you can not do a silicon model and do it to work.
Because you need that space between fingerprints, which only exists on your real finger. That means that this is the safest mechanism to protect your phone.
LP: What if I break my finger?
MN: If you break your finger, you have the option to install up to four fingerprints. So if you have an accident, do not worry, you can record other fingerprints.
LP: Good to know! The next thing I want to talk about is, obviously, there is no ink. How big was the challenge for Samsung to have this design?
The front camera was "Awesome awesome challenge"
MN: It was a great challenge. Because it's not just a beautiful display and what we have, but we had to break a hole through a laser on each display. And without breaking the display. Can you break a hole in the exhibition is not very difficult.
Samsung MWC 2019: But doing this without affecting the nearby pixel is very difficult. At the micro level, we must constantly break the display and install the camera there. Obviously, we will make millions of units of this type.
This means we have to automate the process, to make millions of units fast. This is without having to throw millions of exhibitions. It's very hard to do that. In Samsung we are producing exhibitions, we have the technology to do so, so we're doing it! But many people can not do that!
LP: Now, I want to ask you what is happening in the future. You have inserted the fingerprint sensor in the display! It's there. We can see a pixel there. So it's working. When will it work for rooms?
MN: There will be something that people want more on that, that's clear!
LP: Ask, because I think that there is also a research process for this.
Samsung works on this?
MN: In Samsung, we spend billions of dollars on R & D. There is something that will continue to feed our company in the future. We listen to consumers and what you said exactly what consumers are hoping for. Would it not be great if we had the camera, but at the same time we have a higher screen?
We can not do it again. Obviously, we understand that consumers need. Most consumers will think you can not do it. Because it would show a display cut, which means that the display disappears.
Samsung MWC 2019: People will hope we can do that, but they do not expect us to do so. Samsung's beauty is that we like the challenges and show people opposite. Let's help people to experience things that do not expect them. We can not do it today. We deal with all kinds of challenges.
Of course, here are the things we get from day to day. If that's the case, you can be sure Samsung will do it. Since we're sure we're the best in this kind of challenge. Stay close.
Samsung MWC 2019: Why Mark Notton is proud of the S10 range
LP: Hope to be so! Enjoy what we want. What you want. I want to ask you, are you part of this Samsung process, why are you proud of the new S10 range? If you choose a function that you think best and are you proud of, what would that be?
MN: I mentioned some of them. The fingerprint sensor and cut in the display for the self contained camera appears to be great. Things I'll be very proud of. Another feature that I consider is very useful is the ability to charge a wireless device from one device.
You can only charge your device by getting your phone with you. I use smartwatch, helmet and frustration when I have to travel a lot and I have to take one charger for each.
I do not have to do it anymore. I get a charger for my cell phone and my phone gets the charger for my other component. Simply press the wireless power button and turn into a wireless charger. Put your face-down phone and put the Buds headphones on and immediately start charging.
Samsung's wireless technology is best used to share energy than others
LP: What makes this system safer, better than other manufacturers' systems? Why is it better?
MN: First, it's very effective. For other solutions, energy transfer could be releasing the energy source, which is why people would avoid using them. The most important benefit we have is the benefit that I show you here.
In Samsung we have a variety of powerful and woven devices that are very popular. We sell a lot of Galaxy watching. These Galaxy Buds will be extremely popular. Having the ability to get through the phone is something that has not been done so far.
Because the Galaxy ecosystem is variable and we have a large number of users, it will encourage more people to buy new devices. Because they can load them simple and fast. It's very high!
LP: In other words, energy loss through the wireless charging process has been limited to Samsung technology.
MN: Yes! We have done a lot in the last year to maximize the efficiency of the load rate. That means that if you use your phone to charge other devices, you will have the most efficient power transfer. You will lose heat, but it evaporates. He did it very effectively. This makes it useful in everyday life.
Am Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
LP: I want to talk a bit about smartwatch. We do not have the rotation dial. Personally, I did not like it, so I have more than anything. What are the new features that bring Samsung's new smartwatch?
MN: Just by looking at the design we are going to address a different audience you can see. I'm wearing a Galaxy Watch, because the proportion of that software is needed. But everyone does not have the same wrist.
LP: I do not.
MN: If someone has a less wrist, then this proportion is better. And it's felt more natural to wrist.
LP: Yes, I like pink.
MN: Yeah, that's great. The design and colors we have are great. First of all, we wanted to make sure that we give people the opportunity to buy the devices. The second is that we have changed the interface. All fitness activities, venues are very easy to follow. There is no longer that base, partly for a smaller clock.
LP: Less better
MN: For this we have a system that monitors stress, heart rate throughout the day. It's very important. We also monitor sleep now. So you can see how you sleep when you wake up in the morning.
All this goes smoothly with the Galaxy Health app on smartphones. So you can follow the steps, you can compete with your friends, there are challenges for a month. Over 1.3 million people join each other and can compete with them.
It's about helping consumers improve their fitness levels. Like health, stress reduction, sleep monitoring, and so on.
In addition, you have over 60,000 clock faces that you can install on your device. Simply double the tap on the display and select the one you want. Tens of thousands are available through the application to customize for your own pleasure. We are excited about these new products that will be available in a few weeks.
LP: Finally, we see an ecosystem and a competitive program that can bring people to the same place. If not to share, at least to participate.
MN: Yes, to get involved. Always welcome to a friendly competition. I'm very competitive in nature, and if I find someone doing better than I want you to step. That's how I'll do more exercise for health. We want to offer great technology, great products that people are proud of their ability to do. And offer them practicality to improve their wellbeing.
Samsung MWC 2019: What is Samsung Preparing for the Galaxy A Series?
LP: As I said to Maxime yesterday, I love the series A, but I love the S. series What do you do for the series A? There is a series that should not be neglected, because there are many people who like series A. Will we see some changes then?
MN: Yes. This year, very soon. We launched two MW ventures in the month. Here are A15 and A13. We will launch the A15 in all European markets, and soon you'll hear about new devices that will be launched by Samsung.
Today we are not announcing anything, but in the coming months and weeks there will be a renewal of the A. series One thing that we will focus on because we understand that consumers want a price ratio quality for each range in the portfolio.
We have worked hard over the last 12 months to offer an extended range to A too. It's coming out soon, so keep your eyes and ears in the next few weeks and months.
LP: Thank you for your time and information you gave us. We keep up with the news and hope to hear great things about Samsung's new product.
MN: Here's the interview from Samsung. We've learned new things about the technical component of series 10 and series A.
