How time flies …. Nine years have passed, and we already have eleven editions of “Polish Voice” – based on the Dutch format “The Voice”. Talent show time seems to have passed, but TVP is effectively capitalizing on the recent lack of such programs in the competition and can attract a fairly large audience, an average of two million per episode. The format has managed to create a few names that work on our music scene, though they haven’t achieved star status. The first editions were won by Damian Ukeje, Natalia Sikora and Mateusz Ziółko, and the last two were won by Marcin Sójka and Alicja Szemplińska, Poland’s representative at this year’s 65th Eurovision Song Contest, but unfortunately it was canceled due to the pandemic.

In the finals, Ania Gąsienica-Byrcen, Adam Kalinowski, Krystian Ochman and Jędrzej Skiba competed for the eleventh edition of “The Voice of Poland”, and coach accusations – respectively – Edyta Górniak, Baron and Tomson, Michał Szpak and Urszula Dudziak. There are no weak voices in this program, as already at the stage of “Blind Auditions” participants who know how to sing, chosen during what is called pre-cast production – sometimes with considerable stage experience. And this translates to a pretty high level.

The competition consisted of three rounds, and it was decided who went further, as always in the final, not by the coaches but by the spectators. The first round consisted of performances by individual participants and with a coach. We learned, among other things, that Edyta Górniak finally met Ania Gąsienica-Burke’s upland family, confessing that she would like to breed canterelles in the future, and that when you drink warm wine, you get a “horrible kiss and you have to run away”. In the age of pandemic and Edyta’s known approach to the subject, the advice is invaluable.

The duo combined with the buzz in “Rolling In The Deep” came out right, though it’s hard to put it in a row with the original Adele. In this segment, Ania Gąsienica-Burke also sang “One Night Only”, a soulful ballad from the musical “Dreamgirls”, performed, among others, by Jennifer Hudson.

– At the moment, we no longer judge, but we love it. You sang a beautiful, touching song – praising participant Urszula Dudziak.

Tomson and Baron, Adam Kalinowski’s coaches, the program’s greatest veterans (they were in every issue except the ninth), visited the animal shelter with him, looking for dogs that would appear in the Afromental video “Wściekłe Psy ”. Together they played the acoustic “Drive”, the biggest hit of Incubus rock, and later Adam tackled Gary Moore’s ballad blues “Still Got the Blues” – he sang brilliantly, his voice is heavy, but maybe that a more expressive track would allow the finalists to reach even greater possibilities.

– People, saints, of my God. Phenomena, it’s just amazing, crazy. It’s quite a pleasure to listen to you – says Edyta Górniak.

Michał Szpak accompanied his student, Krystian Ochman, to Jasło, his hometown – showing him, among others a community center where he sang for the first time on stage, where he performed a song by Grzegorz Turnau at the age of thirteen. Together they sang the Spanish version of the 1967 French hit “Comme d’habitude”, best known as Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”. It was performed in Spanish by, among others Il Divo or Gipsy Kings. Verbally, it was hard to blame anything, and the operatic momentum fits well with this famous tune. Born and raised in the United States, Krystian is, after all, the grandson of lyrical tenor Wiesław Ochman – it’s rare to see such proud coaches even in this program.

Then he faced Madonna’s “Frozen”, which was an obvious choice and certainly not the easiest – but managed to create an interesting atmosphere and, above all, show a diverse palette of vocal colors. – You are so original that you give the quality of this edition its uniqueness and I wish you would stay that way – praised the Baron. – You sing beautifully, you have such a natural stage personality that I lose myself in the music as you sing – Edyta Górniak added.

Urszula Dudziak invited Jędrzej Skiba to a nature retreat, to her home in Plaslasie, to breathe just before the final. He also showed him photos of joint performances, including with Sting. The joint performance of “Virtual Insanity” was similar to that of Jamiroquai, though enriched with the typical Dudziak scat. The Kodaline Irish solo singing ballad “All I Want” fits Skiba’s rather delicate and emotional style of singing, which should have no trouble finding its way into the quiet folk rock repertoire.

– When I listen to you, I like to learn this lightness and every time you stand on stage, I try to absorb you. You can’t hear any effort and you can get really high notes so easily … Give me some of that! – made the comment Michał Szpak delighted.

In the interval between the first and second stages, the four performed in the final “I like to get back to where I was” of Zbigniew Wodecki’s repertoire – unfortunately recently, few have been exploited for using specific brand in the advertising campaign, otherwise sponsor “Polish Voice”.

At this stage, Jędrzej Skiba was removed from the program by the viewers. – Dear Jędraszek, nothing can stop you going very far – Urszula Dudziak secured his ward. – You are very smart, very intelligent and very talented and just because you didn’t win this program doesn’t mean there is any shade or scratch. I commend you more than once – he admitted.

The competition was started in the second and final stages of Ania Gąsienica-Burkin with Kasia Wilk’s “Tan when I’m” – a song that allows you to present a wide range of vocal possibilities, even if it wasn’t very popular. – Ania is the top shelf, you’re amazing – praised participant Urszula Dudziak. Adam Kalinowski took the Brothers ballad “Za Szkłem” to the workshop. – At the moment, I’m at a loss for words. It’s such a delight that I don’t want to repeat myself – Edyta Górniak admitted, emphasizing that we are “very fortunate to be able to enjoy music in such a difficult year”, thanks to this historic, unique edition of “Poland’s Voice” . But “Don’t wait for me in Argentina” – a Polish version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” from Zdzisława Sośnicka’s album “Musicale” was perfectly interpreted by Krystian Ochman. “Wizard, you’re stepping into your role and changing the formula of this program,” said the Baron. – You are amazing!

They went to the absolute “finals” Krystian Ochmanwho was in the first place at this time, and Adam Klinowski. – Anna, pride, pride, pride. Thank you so much for all the emotions and our time together, you are an amazing, world-class singer – say goodbye to his ward Ania Gąsienica-Edyta Górniak Burger, expressing the hope that they will walking together in the mountains as they are neighbors. The singer, who often loses control of her emotions, did not cry this time.

In the final stage, the two finalists competed in their own singles – they first went to Adam Kalinowski’s “Tenement Houses”, intended to be a compromise between his rock nature and radio needs, but he they probably wouldn’t be very popular. Krystian Ochman’s “Chiaroscuro” was much more interesting and definitely more original, unlike everything the participant sang earlier in the finale.

With the voices of the audience winner of the 11th edition of “The Voice of Poland” he was obviously excited and nervous about waiting for the results Krystian Ochman. He was awarded not only the statue, but above all record deal with Universal Music Polska i 50 mil PLN. Of course, TVP president Jacek Kurski was also on stage, who cannot miss any opportunity to appear on vision at important times. By the way, he said the final was watched by 3 million 800 thousand. people.

Krystian may have an interesting career – he has a chance in popular music and in the more classical world. He may try to build a bridge between them. Many have already done so, some with success.

The program also featured Andrzej Piaseczny, instructor of the 1st, 6th, 7th and 8th editions, singing his song “For a good thing, for a better thing”, Sanah accompanied himself on the violin in “Champagne “, and then he remembered hitting her. “No sory”, for which she won two awards in the “Premier” competition during the 57th Polish National Song Festival in Opole.

However, the winner of the previous edition, Alicja Szemplińska, introduced her new single “Pusto”.
