Collin Sexton of Cleveland Cavaliers is currently in Manila, along with the legend of WNBA, Ticha Penichiero, to give some information about basketball to the Jr Philippines J9 program.
During Wednesday's media session, Sexton shared his recent training with Kai Sotto in Atlanta. The Cavs guard had only kind words to the young Filipino star.
"I worked out with Kai. I was with him on Saturday. We got up and down, broke up, and worked together. That's my wife," said Sexton.
Sotto has been coaching under the eye skills skills trainer, Nick Stapleton, who also happens to be Sexton's personal trainer. He has been in the United States since the beginning of April to undergo intensive training as he pursued his dream to play in the NBA.
"I feel he can do. It's seven feet, he's a great player and he can shoot him," Sexton of Sotto, said he was expected to return to Manila in early June to join the Philippines Youth Gilas as they prepare for the FIBA Under 19 World Cup in Greece.
"It's been a lot better. So when it comes back, you'll see it all."
Sexton also praised his Gavs teammate and Filipino-American Jordan Jordan Clarkson for being a “great player.” T
"Jordan is a good player … Every night, we're gonna come in and play hard anyway and we're going to give us buckets." [when] it's coming into the game, a microwave immediately. He's a great player and a good member of court and off-court, "he said.
Sexton will be in the country for a few extra days to supervise children and to learn the basics in the NBA Jr. program.
"I feel that this can make a big difference to a child's life if I just come in and talk to them and tell them that they can be anything, anything they want. And I; I know I can go a long way, and for myself, I'm proud to come here and talk to the kids because I put myself in their shoes and I'm not really. know how much feeling it was that one person could ask any question to grow up.
