Soon, a final chance for young women who want a HPV vaccine for free

Almost 120,000 young women have received a free HPV vaccine for the last two years and therefore have a lower risk of cervical cancer. Soon the motion will be submitted gradually.

National Vaccination Register (SYSVAK) figures show that 53 per cent of women who have accessed the two year vaccination program have used it to date.

The program ensures that women born in the period 1991-1996 receive the vaccine that protects against the HPV virus, which can lead to cervical cancer. Since 2009, all women have been given this vaccine in the seventh grade, but those who attended the school before this have not been accepted.

The Minister for Health and Public Health Åse Michaelsen (Frp) is very proud.

– The HPV vaccine saves lives. Thus, the government started the vaccine program in 2016 where a free HPV vaccine was offered to young women born in 1991 or later. So far, almost 120,000 women have taken advantage of the offer. This is great, he says.

Three doses

The State Council recommends that everyone in the target group starts the vaccination by the end of December. Here is the last chance to take the first dose before the system is settled.

Two and three must be taken by 1st July 2019.

– You must take the three doses to get the best possible protection. We accept some questions from women if they need to be vaccinated again if there was a longer time than planned between the doses. They do not need them. He said it was OK that it had taken longer than planned, said project manager Anita Daae for the vaccination program for young women.

– Strong effort

As well as figures for the whole country, the National Institute of Public Health also presents figures for the proportion of women killed in different counties, boroughs and regions on Wednesday

"The urban health service has made a strong effort and has put over 300,000 doses of HPV vaccines since the vaccination bid has been launched two years ago. The highest proportion of vaccine we find in Trøndelag, which is closely followed by Sogn og Fjordane and Hordaland, the Daae victory.

The lowest proportion of vaccines can be found in Østfold, Buskerud and Akershus.

Vaccine reduces the risk of developing severe cervical cell cavity by 90 per cent in women who had not been infected with HPV during vaccination.
