The foldable phone period has officially started. Samsung introduced the world to himthis week, the device was called Galaxy X or Galaxy F. This was not a typical announcement with each detail displayed as they were for the Galaxy S9 or uncovering. Instead, Samsung tasted its mobile phone through a short video and by running a prototype in an active hand on the stage.
Although Samsung never showed the mobile phone in close proximity – even behind a museum glass – the device is really real. It's a conceptual enough to win Google support. In fact, the Samsung project seems to have triggeredfor all phonetic, regardless of maker. In the meantime, Samsung developed developers in a Wednesday afternoon session to share some further details, such as the phone .
Despite the dribs and the draft information, the short appearance of the mobile on the site. This is what we know – and what's up to date.
What has the phone to call?
Samsung did not give a phone phone to the folder, but rumors suggest it will be called Galaxy X or Galaxy F. The "F" could stand for "folding" or "flexible". The "X" could mean "extra" or "10", as there are 9 Galaxy S stick – although we expect to see Galaxy S10 in March this year.
What is a foldable phone?
If we go through a Samsung definition, a mobile phone is a cellular connection device (so the "phone" part) that looks like a tablet when it is fully opened and it can close to look like your normal phone. Samsung's prototype has a similar screen for closing tablets in as a book, but, another foldable phone, with a bent-out screen, which means the "screen" is on the outside. There is no single definition.
Did ZTE do a mobile phone?
ZTE Axon M last year was an early version of a foldable phone that was attached to two separate telephone screens through a central garrison. Samsung (and FlexPai Royole) have a mobile phone that appears folding at the hub. A magnet secures the FlexPai screen in the "closed" position.
We can credit the Axon M with exploring different new ways of using a dual screen device; Royole has already adopted some of these, for example, reflecting the contents of both screens so that people on the other side can watch the same video clip. ZTE could find a second generation (or "foldable") mobile phone.
What is the benefit of a foldable phone?
There are two main advantages. First, a mobile phone can more than double your screen space available. For example, a Samsung model with a 4.5 inch display that you will use when it is closed. Then the inside opens to 7.3 inches. You could argue that you have the equivalent of three exhibitions to work with.
A larger screen gives you an expanded viewing face, but it also reveals different ways you can use your device. For example, Samsung's removable display will leave you multidisciplinary in three areas immediately. Axon M ZTE allows you to use the entire screen for one app, download a separate app on each screen, or the same app mirror on both screens.
What happens when you open and close Samsung's phone when you use an app?
Like the FlexPai Royole, this foldable phone will transfer the app or screen you are automatically viewing in the "closed" position to bend to "site", and to the opposite. We spotted some fragility here on the FlexPai, but we did not have the chance to see how Samsung will handle the change.
What's so great about Samsung's display?
Samsung created a new display for its mobile phone, the Flex Infinity Exhibition. The company said that it has to customize the usual layers that are part of any display (here are the "up" lights on the phone). All displays of layers are made, but usually they are tied and fired. The Flex Infinity Exhibition uses a new glue that Samsung has developed to laminate display displays so that they can be flexible and fold hundreds of thousands of times.
The company also needed to make the Flex Infinity Exhibition tighter than any other mobile display. It breaks the thickness of the polar layer, which helps make the screen legible, by 45 percent.
When will Samsung's mobile phone go for sale?
Samsung said that it will start mass production of the phone in the "coming months". The foldable phone will be likely to start selling in 2019. We expect Samsung to hold a launch event other than submitting the details. Again, this was just a sneak peek.
How much will it cost?
The short answer is that we do not know because Samsung has not been published. However, it's easy to guess that this will be an expensive device. Royole FlexPai's foldable phone for developers costs $ 1,318 for a device with 6GB and 128GB RAM of internal storage. The version with an 8GB and 256GB RAM store goes for $ 1,469.
As Samsung Galaxy Note 9 for power users starts at $ 999, it's a fair guess that an innovative foldable phone would start easily at $ 1,500, if not more. We can expect campaigners like Samsung (and Royole) to justify high prices based on the real estate on screen. After all, they're a reason, you have a tablet and a phone in one – and phone prices are just higher.
What is the battery life?
Samsung aims to put his mobile phone battery life for the current smart Galaxy phones, says the engineering director and software head of the system for Samsung's mobile business Jisun Park. That is despite the fact that there is a more active screen to drain the battery. The US version of Note 9 kept an average of 19 hours and 20 minutes.
Where is the battery anyway?
We do not have access to the design details, but batteries do not bend. Expect a large battery to sit on one side and many other components will balance on the other. A main white that we had with the ZTE Axon M was that it felt an imbalance with the half containing the battery thicker and heavier than the other half. Samsung will have to watch for that.
With that picture that the foldable phone will look really?
Almost definitely. Samsung showed a prototype model, saying that the real parts are hidden inside. Samsung is not ready for the public – or competitors – to see a final design.
If there is one pancrumb officially left for the shape of the mobile phone, it's in the new UI operation system. The company mentioned that the circular iron edges that form a large design motif mean matching the round edges of the devices. The prototype focus has 90 degree margins and thick bezels. We can predict a softer look.
What is the device made of it?
Materials are very large because buyers have conditioning to spend more for aluminum, ceramic and glass. But the FlexPai uses a plastic screen and body to achieve flexibility and cost keeping checking, and the ZTE Axon M has delivered the quality of the camera and other parts to save it affordable .
The foldable phone may have at least one plastic screen. When CNE asked, Samsung's Park suggested during a session for developers that the external screen might have different material meant that the display or internal screen. Our speculation is that the 4.5 inch screen of Gorilla Glass could be made while the inside 7.3 inch screen is possible from plastic.
Samsung had not responded to a request for comments.
How do I work?
In general, you start using the phone as you would like your normal phone, and then open it when you want to take advantage of the larger space. Samsung did not share details about how the hardware and software share messages.
Does it run on Android?
Yes, but there's more. Samsung announced that the foldable phone, and phones in the future, will be run on a version after re-designing Samsung's Samsung software and Un UI. Samsung makes the UI beta available this month, but only for Android 9 Pieces users. Foldable phone will be launched with Android Pie.
What apps will work on the phone?
It's still early days, so we do not have much details about apps. That's a part of the reason Samsung has disclosed the device in SDC, its developer's conference: For developers in conjunction with supporting the phone. Samsung's internal apps, such as SmartThings, are likely to work on the device, and Flipboard, a long-time partner, showed its initial attempts on an app.
Since the maximum benefit is the multi-collecting ability – at one time running three programs or having access to more features in a particular app instantly – developers have the ability to create compelling apps that are; work seamlessly on the foldable phone. Samsung rely on app developers to help innovate as they did with apps that are compatible with stylus for the Galaxy Note.
When you open the device, is the smaller screen darker?
At the moment, the Samsung design will "turn off" the 4.5 inch screen and open your app on the larger 7.3 inch internal screen, picking up where you're leaving.
What is a Samsung competition?
Little at this point, but the future looks fierce. The ZTE Axon M is not a big competitor, and not the Royole FlexPai, but it's Samsung knocking to a truly foldable display. But we know that LG and Huawei have their own plans for foldable phones at work. LG is being launched as early as January at CES 2019.
Will Samsung sell its folding displays to other interventions?
During the SDC panel Wednesday, a developer asked when Samsung would sell its showcase technology to competitors. He refused to comment on that possibility, but Samsung is one of the world's largest display panel producers. It's likely that it will eventually sell the technology to competitors to use in their own devices.
Is this all really?
Foldable phone may feel like a hose dream, but this is a fantasy that could really come to life. Questions continue at the price, practicality and convenience of using a foldable device.
What's going to bend?
"Our innovation pipeline has amazing and extensible displays," said Samsung Denison on Wednesday during the presentation.
