Tom Dumoulin, Primož Roglič and Simon Yates are seen as the big favorites for the Giro's Italia, but they also consider Richard Carapaz. The Ecuadorian – fourth last year – showed up for the Italian round with a victory in the Vuelta Asturias. "The form is good," he said after the final stage.
Carapaz had only to survive in the final stage of the Vuelta Asturias, as the climber had already laid the foundation for his final victory on the previous day. "But it was a difficult time," said the 25-year-old rider. "The speed was quite high, but the most important thing was to keep the situation under control."
"We had to start in a good position on El Violeo, the last climb of the day," he outlined the tactics. Carapaz Edgar Pinto eventually saw the stage win, but the Ecuadorian was also able to praise the finishing line. "I'm so happy with the final victory", he said.

“Last year I managed to book my first leg here in a multi-day stage race. I am proud of the fact that I have been able to extend my title. In the case of Carapaz, Giro now dominates everything, beginning on 11 May in Bologna. The climber will have to share the lead with Mikel Landa, who had to give her the best in Asturias today.
