30 pro-Israel student institutions sent a letter to UCLA Chancellor Gene Block and UC's Regulators' Board on November 8 calling on UCLA to cancel the forthcoming National Students for Justice conference in Palestine (NSJP) on 16th November.
The letter states that SJP is contrary to the "UCLA" Community Principles that exclude "acts of discrimination, harassment, profiling or other behavior that causes individuals harm based on race expression, color, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, religious beliefs, political choice, sexual orientation, gender identity, citizenship or national origin, among other personal features. "
"Only last May, UCLA was the location of SJP violence: Jewish, Kurdish and Armenian students were physically and verbally abusive about sharing their views on campus," says the letter. "In July, the SJP operator at Stanford made national headlines for calling for violence against pro-Israeli students, while last year's SJP was suspended over two years from the University of California, Irvine for the group's assaults for students. "
The letter went on to note that most hate crimes target Jews and college campuses tend to have more anti-Semitic incidents when they have a stronger anti-seamless presence on campus.
"One-man anti-Semitism, Robert Bowers, led him to murder 11 Americans in a synagogue in Pittsburgh simply because they were Jewish," says the letter. "It's vital that UCLA takes the anti-Semitic rhetoric from SJP members seriously."
Here are some examples of rhetoric of this type:
Can conference call to kill #Jews happened after #PittsburghSynagogue shoot? YES, and it's November 16 at @ UCLA. #SJP leaders and members often call for killing #Jews (see the picture for you) and a #UCLA invite their national campus conference pic.twitter.com/UAnpXzhtWZ

Among the groups that signed the letter were the chapters of Israel Supporting Israel in UCLA, Columbia and Santa Monica College, the Tikvah UC Berkeley and Swarthmore Students to Israel.
Los Angeles City Council has also called on UCLA to cancel the SJP conference.
