A woman has tragically died after a car and truck accident in Westmeath.
The heartbreaking incident happened at Glascarn, Rathconrath, Mullingar, at around 1pm on Monday afternoon.
The woman, 45, died after the direct collision.
She was the sole occupant of the car.
Her body was moved to the Mortuary at the Midlands Regional Hospital, where a post mortem examination will be carried out.
The driver of the truck, a man in his 40s, was not injured in the fatal incident.
The road remains closed for Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct a technical examination.
A garda spokesman said: “Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“Gardaí is also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash cam) traveling in the area at the time to make this film available to Gardaí.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
