JawaPos.com – All the dynamic conditions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic have been felt by every country in the world, not just Indonesia. Therefore, the Government and society need to work together to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 so that it does not spread and be controlled.
The government continues to strive to maintain public health and as soon as possible introduce the Covid-19 vaccine. However, according to the views of various health sector experts, the 3M health protocol (Wear a mask, wash your hands, keep your distance) should not be ignored by the public.
Dr. Syahrizal Syarif, MPH, Ph.D., Epidemiologist FKM UI, explained that in May 2020, he observed, there are already 80 percent of countries whose outcrops are under control, and 20 percent are volatile. But today the figures are different, the state of the plague has fluctuated to 64 percent, this means not only Indonesia, but the world is also volatile.
“Then I think the vaccines that have conducted phase III clinical trials are good news, because they give us hope that we can come out or at least be in a situation where Covid-19 is not a public health problem , ”he explained in the Productive Dialogue. with the theme of Vaccine + 3M: A Powerful Perspective Against Covid-19 hosted by the recent Covid-19 Treatment and Economic Recovery Committee (KPCPEN) of Jakarta.
The statement of dr. Syahrial supported vaccines was good news for everyone, also by Theodorus Jodimarlo, a Travel Entrepreneur, who was economically affected since the Covid-19 pandemic. He welcomed the vaccine, because with the vaccine, the economy would definitely improve.
“We, especially in the tourism world, have suffered enough for more than nine months without income. Vaccines are a breath of fresh air because the tourism industry is the first to be affected, and the last to get better, ”he said.
In terms of public health, dr. Syahrizal said that vaccines were actually the best health intervention of the 20th century. Therefore, of all health interventions, it has been proven that, according to him, this vaccine can reduce mortality and morbidity.
“I think it is necessary to convince the public to accept the Covid-19 vaccine, this is not easy so it needs examples from community leaders,” he said.
In addition, in a situation of waiting for the vaccine, even after the vaccine has been received by the public, it is still necessary to be disciplined in fulfilling the 3M health protocol. “Because this vaccine has to be given gradually, the emergence of group immunity in the community is also gradual,” explained dr. Syahrizal.
Health protocols are often overlooked by society, especially when running 3M as a complete package. A UNICEF survey with AM Nielsen in 6 major cities in Indonesia some time ago, shows that long-distance maintenance behavior is often neglected.
Survey results showed that guarded distance behavior (47 percent) was lower than wearing a mask (71 percent) and hand washing (72 percent). If the community can consistently perform this behavior, it is believed that it will significantly reduce the Covid-19 transmission chain. Later the introduction of the vaccine will be a complement to fully protect public health.
While awaiting the vaccination program, affected communities such as Theodorus advised to remain productive, “While they are not usually engaged in activities, at least there are new things that can be learned. Of course we support the government so that we can come out with relief later when we can go out as we used to, without any more fear, “he concluded.
