The first quarter of 2019 was a rough one for Nokia HMD Global phone manufacturer. In line with the Counterpoint report we already dealt with, the brand fell off the top 10 brands of smartphone brands, but this was the No 1 brand in feature phones. Nokia smartphones took nearly 1% of the market share in Q1 2019, as we were told by Counterpoint Research.
The counterpoint also calculated volume Nokia feature phones to transport it during Q1 2019 and to share with us that the volume 13 million units. Nearly 1% of the smartphone market share is in smartphones means something of 3 million to 3.4 million smartphones transported during Q1 2019. For reasons of simplicity, I took “nearly 1%” as 0.9% and use that to calculate the load in the graphs that follow down below.
As we can see, in the last two quarters, HMD Global went into a period of decline in loads of smartphones and feature phones. The brand glued the most feature phones during Q1 2019, which means they performed well in a market segment that is deteriorating, but a deterioration in smartphones poses. regret, especially given that HMD's portfolio consists mainly of cheaper devices with little margin.
In total, that means that over 16 million Nokia phones are being shipped in the first quarter of 2019. The results for the second quarter should be considered better launching new devices, but will have to t to see what their effect will be.
