That's why ready meals make us more coarse

Are ready meals responsible for the increasing number of overweight people?

Supermarket shelves nestled with prepared meals heavily processed. From pizza soup to bag – about half of the products belong to this category. With the increasing supply of ready meals, the number of obese people in Germany is also increasing. A recent study shows why: super-processed foods make people eat more, eat faster and put more weight.

In the latest study by the US National Institute of Health and the National Institute for Diabetes and Kidney Disease and Diseases, we found that eating high-processed foods had a big impact on our weight because we were eating more food. These foods and make them faster take us compared to normal foods. The results of the study were published in the English magazine “Cell Metabolism”.

Gain strong weight in a short time

When people ate foods that were processed extremely, they ate an average of 500 calories a day. As a result, they received two pounds (1 kg) of weight within just two weeks. Food consumption and participants' health were examined in detail in the study. During the study, each group of participants had three meals a day, including drinks and snacks.

A healthy diet led to weight loss

Half of the participants ate a diet of foods that were processed high for the study. The other half of the participants ate a diet full of fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Meals were as balanced as possible and all calories were counted. During the study period, group participants reduced their weight with a healthy balanced diet.

Foods processed higher make people eat more

The authors of the study were very surprised at this finding, because they had assumed that, in fact, when both types of nutrition were matched, such as sugars, fat, carbohydrates, protein and sodium, it would not. People have no reason to worry about foods that have been processed too much. to eat more. However, it was found that the individuals in the ultra-processed diet group actually consume much more calories. As a result, they received fat and body fat.

From this, the researchers came to the conclusion that foods have been processed in favor of obesity. The study used a NOVA food distribution system, which distributes foods according to their additives that improve their flavor, their preservatives, improve their life, and their packaging and marketing features. Both types of nutrition included the same amount of calories, sugar, fiber, fat and carbohydrates, and participants could eat as much or as little as they wished. After two weeks, the groups changed their diet and observed the same patterns of overeating and weight gain.

Further research is required

Both groups noted that they liked the food, suggesting that something other than taste caused the difference. Further research will be devoted to understanding this case in the future. The increase in food taken could be due to specific additives that interfere with, for example, the release of hunger hormones. The research shows how difficult it can be for less well-off people to adhere to nutrition recommendations. The diet had been processed costing a third less than a healthy diet of unprocessed foods.
