Why November 14?

Let us go back in time and recall the amount of work, effort and human effort behind discovering insulin, which today employs several thousand diabetic all over the world and can live a full life through it.

As true, the discoveries of glory and analysis do not fall on the line of people. Otherwise, Dr. did not Frederick Banting, discovering insulin. In the 1920s, Frederick Banting performed a medical practice in Ontario. He also gave lectures on internal medication at the local university. At this time there came an article about the diabetes and lowlands of Langerhans in the pancreas. Given that he was preparing his dissertation at the same time, he thought that he could try to aspire insulin and use to treat a disease that causes too much glucose in the blood – diabetes.

The first insulin came from the dog

In 1921, Frederick Banting presented his idea at the University of Toronto, and after a great effort he was able to have a laboratory and assistant for planned research. Banting performed with assistant, Charles Besh, dog experiments. The first insulin was obtained by tying pancreas pins to the dog. This surgery caused digestive enzymes to accumulate in the pancreas and it was destroyed a few weeks later. There were only remaining insulin producing cells. The hormone sprays Banting into a vein for diabetes dogs. Blood glucose levels did not increase after administration, which showed the effect of insulin. Dr. discovered Frederick Banting, along with Charles Best, medication for diabetes.
In 1923, Frederick Banting won the Nobel Prize for Insulin Discovery, as it was an obvious development in the treatment of diabetes. He became the youngest Nobel Prize in the physiology and medicine category at that time. Diabetes World Day falls on the 14th anniversary of this canadian doctor's birthday.
