Although the first few months of isolation have been particularly difficult for the national automotive industry, the sector has managed to make its mark. According to data published by the National Federation of Traders, Fenalco, in conjunction with the Colombian National Businessmen’s Association, Andi, car sales have been growing steadily to near last year’s levels.
It is enough to compare the very poor figures for April (217 units sold), May (8,920) and June (11,961), against those of October (20,858), but especially those of November (22,330) that the variance with respect to the 2019 monthly sales begins to land below the double digits, with a difference of just 6.7%.
A great achievement if you also consider that the industry has reached these figures not counting the Bogotá International Motor Show, which was organized between November 4 and 16 and that, according to historical tradition, it tends to double that month’s sales relative to those of the previous year, as we remember that it was a biennial event.
However, and while the outlook is showing a steady resurgence, the industry still cannot be trusted. After all, the 161,537 units sold so far this year continue to outperform the 232,659 registered until the same period last year. The challenge will be even greater if we take into account that over 30,000 vehicles were sold in December last year.
However, the industry maintains an optimistic face, while the list of best-selling vehicles shows a a clear trend towards vehicles manufactured in Colombia, which tends to be more pocket-friendly. In that sense, we rank below the top ten best selling cars in Colombia so far in 2020:
1. Chevrolet Onix (7571 units)
2. Renault Duster (7,275 units)
3. Renault Kwid (6.301)
4. Renault Stepway (5.594)
5. Renault Logan (5.560)
6. Renault Sandero (5.152)
7. Kia Picanto (4,629)
8. Chevrolet beat (4.557)
9. Mazda CX-30 (4.381)
10. Mazda 2 (3.747)
The overall list shows many similarities to the November ranking, which is organized as follows:
1. Renault Kwid (1.164)
2. Renault Duster (1,073)
3. Renault Logan (967)
4. Mazda CX-30 (907)
5. Chevrolet Onix (841)
6. Renault Stepway (762)
7. Renault Sandero (642)
8. Chevrolet beat (579)

In addition, it is shown that the preferred segments are in the national territory they are Automobiles, with 72,126 units sold, followed by SUVs with 56,518. Behind are the Pick-ups with 11,219 and the trucks with 6,666.
Finally, it shows that the public transport and freight sector has also been slowly regenerating. In Colombia, this year 6,112 trucks, 2,933 taxis, 2,164 buses, 672 vans and 448 minibuses have been sold.
