Both Asian people look favorably on Chile as a pole in the region to establish a data center.
Do you remember that last year has made news of the possible plans of Amazon to install a data center in Chile or Argentina? In Chile's case, now two interested actors are added: only Huawei and Alibaba.
Making something memorable, during the last year, the North American company held meetings with government entities to evaluate the situation. The issue has been dragged since 2016 and they have even been offered millionaire figures (see here). But, of course, Amazon is not the only thing that exists. Chile also attracts the attention of two technology companies in China.
According to a report by La Tercera, in the case of Huawei, the local office is a full campaign to convince the main office in China to implement a major investment in the country, which would be expressed in a center data for Latin America, mainly focused in cloud computer services. In any case, the company also evaluates land in Brazil and Argentina and estimates that the final decision will be made in the second quarter of 2019.
Similarly, Cristián Rodríguez of InvestChile, a public body that "promotes Chile as a destination for direct foreign investment in the global market," has met last year in China with the vice president of the Alibaba group , Liu Song, where both mentioned the benefits the country has for setting data centers.
The company also evaluates this possibility, as Alibaba also has a cloud section that has 19 data centers in the world. Of these 19, none are in Latin America, so the plans could be serious.
