Havana, December 18 .- In 2018 developed payments through different electronic channels, despite the country's intention to reduce the use of cash gradually, reported today at the National Assembly for Power of People Irma Martinez, Minister Central Bank of Cuba.
The deputy for Ciego de Ávila explained that even the figures were far from meeting expectations, and demanding increased internal control, better tracking operations and organizing the economic system.
He emphasized that new ATMs had been introduced for the exchange of foreign currency at José Martí International Airport and in the cruise terminal in Havana, where 98,000 operations were carried out, which equates to 24 million pesos in both funds.
Similarly, recycling funders have been installed in eight branches of the capital, where 48,000 operations were carried out from January to November and 25.4 million pesos were installed.
He said that mobile banking showed growth in 2018, an alternative payment used 81 times more than the rest of the electronic channels.
He recalled that a new version of the Transfermóvil application was also published, with new features such as the possibility of re-aligning the cell phone balance and changing the magnetic cards' restrictions that customers have.
Data made publicly in National Assembly sessions indicates that this option has over 120 thousand users, an inadequate figure in relation to the number of cell phones and current bank cards.
According to Martinez, the 2018 payment matrix shows a change in the trend, with a 1.2% increase.
He also confirmed that the bank works on the pay portal, as well as on issues such as cyber-installation.
Currently there are 4.7 million magnetic cards in the country, and it is anticipated that five million will be available after the end of the year. (ACN) (Picture: Archive)
