Call for extreme measures to increase dengue in Honduras

February 21, 2019, 14:20Tegucigalpa, February 21 (Prensa Latina) Today, Honduras Health Minister, Alba Consuelo Flores, called for extreme sanitary measures in the face of an increase in dengue cases in the country.

We have prepared an action plan that involves the permanent installation of the Ministry's team in the northern part of the country, where the highest number of people who have been infected have registered, said Flores at the press.

Despite the significant increase in the number of cases of dengue, 96 per cent compared to the previous year, the minister rejected the national crisis due to the disease transmitted by mosquitoes Aedes aegypti.

He also urged the medical staff of the affected regions to be alert to the evolution of the disease.

Data from the National Surveillance Cooperation of Arbovirosis registered 1,970 cases of classic dengue and 535 cases of severe dengue or hemorrhagic. So far, the average daily diagnosis of 46 people have been infected and around 333 weekly.

The regions with the highest number of accrued cases are Cortés Department (665), San Pedro Sula Metropolitan Region (278), Mid Metropolitan Region (125), Olancho (93), Yoro (90).

90 percent have been diagnosed with dengue hemorrhagic fever. In this sense, health authorities investigate eight suspicious deaths because of this condition.

High fever, rash, muscle and joints are some of the symptoms of this disease. In the most serious cases there may be profuse bleeding that can lead to death.
