Consumer Reports set the Tesla Model 3 in the fun-runner-up category, extremely unreliable where brands like Alfa Romeo, Land Rover and Maserati also live.
Consumer Reports, who have a complex relationship with Tesla, say they can no longer recommend Model 3 because issues with paint, painting and body hardware raise reliability questions. CR members reported the results in an annual reliability survey that included data on approximately 470,000 vehicles.
The report caused Tesla shares to fall by more than 2.7%.
It can be argued that Model 3 is the most important Tesla vehicle. The Tesla survival joins Model 3. Not more efficiently the cost of producing and presenting the vehicle – although these are biggies. If more users turn to other electric vehicles, the sales momentum could have helped and Tesla helped have two consecutive quarters of profits.
Owners seem to have liked, even love, the Model 3. He received top marks in the recent CR owner satisfaction survey and also gained a positive road test score. It's an incredible duty – and one CR even recognizes – that spontaneous, lifestyle and other luxury vehicles share. Owners love the vehicles, despite ongoing issues with the components inside them.
"Although Teslas performs well in user & road user tests and have excellent proprietary satisfaction, their reliability has not been consistent, according to our members, which has led to changes to & # 39; w recommended status, "Jake Fisher, senior director of car testing in the User Report, said in the statement.
Tesla has asked Consumer Reports for more details about the issues that customers report. According to Tesla, CR said they did not have more specific information to share.
"Not only are our cars the safest and best performing vehicles available today, but we take feedback from our customers seriously and implement rapid improvements at any time we hear about issues," said Tesla spokesman in an email statement. "That's just one of the reasons why, in this same survey From Consumer Reports, grade 3 was the most satisfactory # 1 car, and why Tesla vehicles have been in the Consumer Reports Owner Satisfaction survey every year since 2013 – the first year, Tesla had included in. "
The question of reliability has continued for all Tesla vehicles. CR does not recommend Model X or Model S either due to reliability issues. The Tesla X Model had to be included in the top 10 most reliable Vehicle CR lists for 2019.
The CR survey revealed problems with the prevention, particularly in Model Model 2017 and hardware issues in the X Model. Owners in the survey identified a number of reliability problems with Model 3.
Tesla noted that he had made "significant improvements" to correct any issues that Model 3 customers might experience in this report. The automaker also noted that his return policy allows any customer who is dissatisfied with their car to return for a full refund.
"This new data comes from Consumer Reports from their Annual Survey of Owner Satisfaction, which runs from July to September, so the vast majority of the issues This has already been corrected through design and manufacturing improvements, and we are already seeing a significant improvement in our data field, "said spokesman.
Tesla has the ability, which it often uses, to present software updates to bug fixes, improve performance, and treat customers to fun stunning. Painting and fraud issues are, of course, a different issue.
And despite this ability to repair and improve the vehicle over time, the CR reliability survey could be sufficient to turn customers potential away from Tesla and towards another electric vehicle brand.
The Tesla supporters base may be strong enough to keep the sales momentum. Enough brands and other models, following fierce sequences despite problems with the vehicle.
"In most cases, reliability issues will undermine satisfaction," Fisher said. "But when a vehicle has followed enthusiastically, as with Tesla, owners may ignore some issues. We have seen this with other vehicles such as the Jeep Wrangler and Chevrolet Corvette."
