Conor McGregor announces retirement from MMA after 12 troubled months


Irish UFC star Conor McGregor has claimed he is retiring from MMA after a troubled 12 months in and out of the octagon.

The 30-year-old on Twitter said he had decided to retire "from the sport formally called" Mixed Martial Arts ".

"I want my good old colleagues when moving forward in a competition," he added.

McGregor was beaten by Khabib Nurmagomedov in a UFC lightweight bout in October and then broke a battle with members of the Russian armed support team.

McGregor was arrested and charged with robbery in Miami earlier this month after claiming to be stamping on a fan mobile phone.

And in April 2018, McGregor was filmed throwing a steel doll through a bus window in Brooklyn, which had a number of UFC staff and fighters on board.
