2020 became one of the most successful in Xiaomi’s history, as the company successfully replaced Apple in the third quarter of the year and became the third largest smartphone maker in the world.
Xiaomi is ahead of Apple in smartphones
Samsung is on top again
The combination of pandemic conditions, a collapse in Huawei’s sales and Apple’s flagship were the main reasons for the Chinese company’s remarkable rise.
Judging by a recent Nikkei Asian Review report, the company is currently looking closely at Samsung’s first position, and will do everything it can to reach it in 2021.
Sources close to the company reveal that Xiaomi is considering ordering components for up to 240 million smartphones by 2021, almost double the number of sales the brand realized in 2019.
According to some sources, component orders for production are up to 300 million devices, which is two million more than all devices sold by Samsung in 2019.
However, Nikkei reports that partners Xiaomi Qualcomm and MediaTek are unlikely to be able to supply such a large number of components. Pandemic supply, which affects many industries, can also be a problem.
However, the difference in Xioami’s designs and Qualcomm’s and MediaTek’s capabilities may be filled by Samsung and its Exynos chips.
If Xiaomi still manages to reach its lower target of 240 million devices, analysts predict that the company will win a firm lead over Apple and sit comfortably in third position.
