An officer from the office said the First Minister had told Shakib to continue playing.
Shakib and Mashrafe Bin Mortuza XI expressed their interest in collecting a Sunday nomination form from the party's candidate for parliamentary elections, deputy secretary and party secretary Biplob Barua said.
"They did (Mashrafe and Shakib) call the General Secretary of Abbey Quader, they will choose a nomination form tomorrow (Sunday)."
Mashrafe Narail and Shakib were asked to take part in the Magura elections, the Awami League said.
Later, Shakib went to Gonobba and met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said the Prime Minister's Office.
"The First Minister told him that the World Cup was in front of you. You still play," he said.
Shakib's statement was not immediately available in this regard.
However, Mashrafe said he can withdraw a nomination form on Sunday.
Awami League has begun to sell nomination forms from the Election Commission on Thursday after the eleventh parliamentary election timetable announced on Thursday. This program is underway at the Dhanmondi office.
