Corona and the sense of smell – smell nothing, taste nothing



The loss of the sense of smell or taste is now an important symptom of Covid-19 disease. New research shows what’s happening in the nose.

It is quite irritating when the most wonderful perfume disappears. While cooking and eating anyway, but also the smell of autumn leaves, Advent magic or the wrap-around animal on your lap is suddenly missing. Unpleasant odor marks are no longer visible, but the quality of life cuts are still significant. At the start of the pandemic, sensory disorder was only noticed by a side effect, but patients found it particularly upsetting.

Meanwhile, restrictions on smell and taste have long been established as one of the main symptoms after infection with Sars-CoV-2. According to the German Robert Koch Foundation, complaints are recorded in 21 percent of those affected. In specialized articles, a frequency of 30 to 40 percent is sometimes given. Especially in patients who otherwise have no symptoms, the missing or often altered odor is the only thing that really bothers them.
