Pick n Pay announced on Monday 1 April that it had developed a function in an app that allowed users to taste and smell food on their mobile phones.

The prank was one of the most complicated on the day in South Africa, with the retailer going as far as publishing statements to the press, tweeting – and video marketing involving its staff smelling their phones.
In the press release, the retailer said he had spent two years developing the "TasteTech" technology to become the first smell app in the world, but that it would only be available on April 1st. T for mobile phones two years and under.

The first product to be tasted would be the PnP hot salt cross (sugar, wheat and without diary) and without restriction on the number of times customers could taste.
The ap rate would be calibrated with your bud asking you to navigate the screen with your tongue.
Users on twitter were very impressed.
The retailer went as far as publishing a video behind the curtains on its YouTube channel.
